AP Exam Day Information

Where do I report for testing?

You will report to the lobby of the Grayson Technical building.  You will check in and be directed to the testing location. Please leave your phones and any “smart” devices in your car.  This includes iPhone watches and other things that will be collected prior to the administration of the test. 

What time do I need to arrive?

Morning Exam- report to the Grayson Tech lobby at 7:00am (if you can provide your own transportation, you will be allowed to leave school after your morning exam).

Afternoon exam- report to the Grayson Tech lobby at 11:00am (if you can provide your own transportation you do not have to come to school on exam day until 11:00 for afternoon exams).

What must I bring with me to take the exam?

You must have a valid ID (something with your name and picture) in order to check in.  If you do not have an ID we will need to look you up in our school system.  Also bring pencil, pen and calculator if your exam permits (see chart below for calculator use).

                Exams that allow use of calculator- see specific restrictions per exam listed below:

  • Biology- 4 function calculator with square root permitted.  Graphing  and scientific calculators are NOT allowed.
  • Calculus AB/BC- graphing calculator permitted for certain parts of the exam.
  • Chemistry- Scientific and graphing calculators permitted for one section of the exam.
  • Physics 1- 4-function, scientific or graphing calculators permitted for entire exam.
  • Statistics- graphing calculator with statistical capabilities permitted for entire exam.

What is the date of my exam?

Please see the reverse side for exam dates/times.  Remember to report one hour prior to exam time.

Can I bring my phone or another electronic device with me?

No, you may NOT have any electronic devices in the testing room (also applies to smartwatches).  All electronics will be taken up before you enter the room and returned to you after the exam is complete.   If you drive, please leave your phone in your car.  The testing time will be displayed on a screen in the testing location.

Can I have snack or water during the test? 

Yes, you may bring a snack/drink but it can only be accessed during the break.   You may not have anything at your seat.

What type(s) of writing utensils do I need? 

You will need a pen and pencil during testing.  Yes, you can use a mechanical pencil. 

What do I do when the exam is finished and I am dismissed?

You are free to go home if you have a ride.  You are excused from school for the entire school day but must make up any work missed.  If you do not have a ride home you are required to go to your next class.

Am I excused for the entire school day?

Yes, but you are required to make up any worked missed.  If you do not plan to return to class following your exam you must leave Grayson HS property immediately after the exam. 

What happens if I miss the exam?

If you miss the exam for any reason you will need to pay to send the exam back to the college board ($15 fee).  Late exams are given for only specific absences (per college board policy).


What happens if I choose not to take the exam after already paying to take it?

There are no refunds.  Once the exam is ordered you must pay to send the exam back ($15) or find another student enrolled in the course that wants to take the exam in your place.

What happens if I get sick during the exam or start the exam and cannot continue?

You will be able to take the exam during the late testing period. 

Do I have to report my scores to colleges?

No.  You will be able to send scores to colleges by bubbling on the pre-administration materials the day of the exam.

**Students should arrive at 7:00AM for morning exams and 11:00AM for afternoon exams.  Exams will begin promptly at the above time and students are not allowed to enter the testing room late. 


AP Exam Registration

Registration for AP testing is now open and will close on Friday March 17th.  Registration and payment for AP exams will be through MyPaymentsPlus (the same online system used for paying for school lunches).  If you currently have a MyPaymentsPlus account (for school lunches, last year’s exams, etc.), simply go to your student’s account and follow the instructions below.  If you are new to MyPaymentsPlus, it is very easy to create an account on this secure user-friendly site. Just go to and follow the prompts.

MyPaymentsPlus accepts credit cards, debit cards and e-checks.  All students must pay a $10 registration fee, which covers the cost of one exam for the student.  Each additional exam is $93.  Students who are eligible for free and reduced lunch will see a discounted price on MyPaymentsPlus.

Exam Registration Instructions

1.  Select "Advanced Placement Exam Registration".

2.  Choose the exam you are registering to take.

3.  Read the Important Exam Information by clicking on the link.  Check the box to agree that you have read and agree to the terms.  Select the exam date (only one option to select).  Answer the question about special accommodations and submit registration.

4.  Once you have submitted registration you must then complete the payment to pay for the exam.  MyPaymentsPlus will calculate the cost for you.

2017 AP Testing Dates

2017 Advanced Placement Fee Information
  • Every student must pay the one-time $10 registration fee.
  • Every student receives one free exam per school year (paid for by GCPS) if enrolled in the corresponding AP class.  Each additional exam is $93.00.
  • Any student wishing to take an exam (but is not taking the class) must pay $93 per exam, plus the $10 registration fee.
  • Any test ordered but not taken will cost the student an additional $25 to return the test to College Board.
  • Student must register and pay for exams via MyPayments by March 17th.  No exams can be ordered after March 17th.

Note: The MyPaymentsPlus system will calculate testing fees appropriately based on the individual student’s situation regarding free and reduced lunch.
